RESEARCH

Innovation that starts local — and never stops growing.

At The Arthur Companies, research isn’t a side project. It’s the foundation of how we help growers make better decisions. Our R&D program combines real-world field trials with controlled-environment testing in our state-of-the-art plant growth facility in north Fargo — giving us the ability to study, refine, and validate agronomic performance all year long. From seed to soil health, fertility to crop protection, we’re investing in research that translates directly to your acres — delivering practical, profitable results grounded in local conditions.

Why It Matters

Every data point, every test, every trial connects back to the grower. Our research feeds directly into The Arthur Companies’ agronomy, inputs, and merchandising programs, turning experimentation into proven practice.

When we tell a grower a product works, it’s because we’ve seen it work — in local plots, under local stress, with measurable return.

Because in our business, local science builds local trust. That’s exactly what The Arthur Companies’ research delivers — year-round, from growth chamber to harvest.

Year-Round Research. Real-World Results.

Our research operates across two complementary platforms:

  • Field-Scale and Plot Trials
Across North Dakota and the Northern Plains, we run small-plot and field-scale trials to evaluate seed genetics, fertility programs, and crop-protection timing under actual growing conditions. Each site is GPS-mapped, digitally logged, and carefully monitored throughout the season to ensure accurate, repeatable data.
  • Controlled-Environment Testing
Inside our north Fargo growth facility, we control temperature, light, and nutrients to test year-round. This allows us to simulate field conditions, accelerate genetic screening, evaluate seed treatments, and fine-tune fertility and biological programs without waiting for a new season.

Together, these systems let us move faster from trial to insight — creating a continuous feedback loop that improves every recommendation we make.

Focused on What Matters

Our work began in wheat, and that remains a cornerstone — improving quality, yield stability, and profitability for one of the region’s most important crops. But our research reaches far beyond that. We conduct trials across a broad spectrum of crops including corn, soybeans, canola, barley, sunflowers, pulses, and other specialty crops, studying how fertility, seed genetics, and crop protection interact across rotations. Each test is designed to reveal what works best for this region’s unique soils, climate, and management practices.

Technology and Precision

Every trial we run is guided by precision tools and industry-standard quality control.

  • GPS-guided plot design and data logging ensure accuracy and traceability.
  • UAV imagery and sensor networks monitor plant health, canopy development, and stress response throughout the season.
  • Digital record keeping and analytics convert raw field data into clear insights for agronomy, product development, or marketing support.

These technologies allow us to validate performance, detect differences early, and deliver insights faster — without compromising reliability.

Custom Research Partnerships

The Arthur Companies’ R&D team also provides custom contract research for industry partners — from seed and input companies to ag-tech and biological developers. We act as an extension of your team, combining scientific precision with regional expertise.

Our services cover every stage of a research program:

  • Trial design and protocol development
  • Field and greenhouse execution
  • Data collection and statistical analysis
  • UAV imagery, mapping, and report generation
  • Support for label development, EPA documentation, and performance validation

Each study concludes with a comprehensive digital report including analyzed data, imagery, and interpreted insights ready for agronomic, marketing, or regulatory use.

Every project is managed by experienced research agronomists who follow standardized trial protocols and QA/QC procedures, ensuring results meet the same integrity standards used by leading national research organizations.
